MUM AND YOUNG SON LEFT TERRIFIED BY EX THREATENING TO KILL HER AT PENZANCE HOME
A mum and her young son were left terrified and had to take refuge in their bathroom after her ex, Darrell Rowland, came to her house in Pendennis Road, Penzance, and tried to kick down her door while making threats to kill her.On September 14, Rowland started banging loudly on her window and door, causing her to call Devon and Cornwall Police.
Following police advice, the woman barricaded herself and her son in the bathroom.
Rowland, from Camborne, shouted foul abuse and made death threats towards the woman and her new partner, saying he would kill them both.
He continued to smash her window, door, and damaged her ring doorbell camera and letterbox.
Police arrested him, and he was charged with harassment, breaching a restraining order, and criminal damage.
He was convicted of both crimes at Truro Magistrates' Court on October 7.
During the trial, the victim stated she suffers from complex PTSD triggered by the incident and said, "I want to be safe in my own home but because of him I can't anymore." It was revealed that Rowland, aged 48, has 18 convictions for 49 offenses, including violence, drugs, drug supply, and animal cruelty.
His barrister noted that he had managed to stay out of prison for 14 years and has complex mental health issues, seeking help and participating in AA meetings while on remand.
He has two jobs in prison and a potential job as a fisherman if given community sentence.
The court sentenced him to 10 months in prison, with 40% served before release on license, and extended his restraining order to prevent contact with the victim or entering her street.
The judge expressed concern over his risk of reoffending and his behavior towards the victim.
