HALIFAX THUG SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON WOMAN
A thug has been sentenced to four years in prison and given an extended licence period of 12 months after a judge labeled him a "dangerous offender" following a terrifying assault on a woman in her own flat.
Sohaib Younis, aged 27 from Halifax, had already been ordered to stay away from his victim when a restraining order was imposed in October 2019, but he breached this order in the autumn by returning to her home and attempting to rekindle their relationship.
Bradford Crown Court was told that after a struggle, Younis left threatening to return and kill her if she called the police.
Despite being wanted by police, he managed to enter her home again while she was in bed, where he became violent, punching her multiple times.
He dragged her into the living room by her hair, kicked her face, and then stabbed her on the head with scissors.
During the attack, he became apologetic but refused to leave and later lunged at her with a screwdriver, causing a cut above her eye.
The prosecutor said that during the violence, Younis pulled out two of her bottom teeth with his bare hands, inflicting immense pain.
He also attempted to escape through a bathroom window, but when the victim tried to flee, he attacked her again by squeezing her throat.
Younis stayed in the house overnight, acting as if nothing had happened, but when he learned police were looking for him, he assaulted her again, hitting her over the head with a clock.
He was arrested three days after the attack, during which he claimed to be confused due to discontinuing his psychosis medication and using crack cocaine.
Younis pleaded guilty to unlawful wounding and breaching the restraining order, with the judge describing the injuries as extensive and stating it was only luck that more serious harm was avoided.
He was deemed a dangerous man, and the judge ordered him to serve two-thirds of his four-year sentence before consideration for parole.
