A man who sexually abused a girl under the age of 13 has been sentenced to eleven years in prison.
Simon Crick, 41, from Tamar Close in St Ives, pleaded guilty to the charges of attempted rape of his young victim and taking indecent photographs of her.
His egregious actions left the girl feeling frightened, hurt, and ashamed.
Crick changed his plea to guilty only two days after a trial commenced at Cambridge Crown Court on April 9.
During his sentencing on April 11, the judge expressed concern that the trauma caused by Crick’s abuse would likely affect the victim for the rest of her life.
The police investigation was triggered when the girl confided in another peer about the abuse.
A search of Crick’s residence revealed a digital camera containing two indecent images of the girl.
A victim impact statement was read out in court, where the girl stated that the abuse continues to impact her daily life.
Crick received a total jail term of eleven years eleven years for attempted child rape, seven years for three counts of sexual assault, and eleven years for penetration of a child under 13.
The charge of possessing indecent images was considered an aggravating factor but did not result in a separate sentence.
All sentences are to be served concurrently, resulting in an overall term of eleven years in prison.
In addition to his imprisonment, Crick was subject to a restraining order preventing contact with his victim and a sexual harm prevention order prohibiting him from contacting anyone under 16.
