MAN CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ASSAULTING WOMAN IN ST IVES
A MAN in his 20s has been charged in connection with an alleged sexual assault near Ringwood.Eshwin Soobhug, 28, has been charged and is due to appear at in Poole Magistrates' Court on Saturday, August 16.
Dorset Police received a report at around 1.51am on Sunday July 27, that a woman in her 50s had been sexually assaulted by a man in Avon Castle Drive, St Ives.
It is reported that the incident is thought to have occurred shortly before the report, at around 1.30am.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "A Mauritian national, Eshwin Soobhug, aged 28 years old and of Windmill Lane in East Dorset, was previously arrested in connection with the incident.
Following further investigative work, Soobhug – who defines himself as being of Asian Pakistani including Asian British ethnicity – has been charged with sexual assault by penetration and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates' Court on Saturday 16 August 2025.
Police have urged members of the public to 'refrain' from speculation regarding this case.
Detective chief inspector Nicky Jenkins, of Dorset County CID, said: “The victim is continuing to be supported and has been updated with the developments in the investigation.
This matter will be subject to active court proceedings, and it is vital that the justice process is allowed to follow its course.
We would therefore urge members of the public to refrain from speculation or commentary relating to this case, particularly online and on social media.”
