BRIDLINGTON MAN GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR ONLINE CHILD ABUSE AND INDECENT IMAGES
A 55-year-old man named Simon Claydon from Bridlington was caught in an undercover police operation after he sent 'revolting' and 'revolting' sexual messages to a decoy online account that he believed belonged to a 13-year-old girl.
The messages, sent on December 30, 2022, included explicit questions and a request to see the girl naked, with Claydon stating 'I won't tell' and expressing that he liked her being just 13.
The court heard that if the girl had been real, his messages would have been 'highly corrupting.' The police identified him through his online details, and his phone was subsequently searched, revealing five indecent images of children in Category B and 22 in Category C, dating from October 2020 to February 2023, involving children aged between four and 16, with sexual acts involved.
During police interviews, he denied any sexual interest in children and claimed ignorance of the images on his phone.
Claydon pleaded guilty to attempting to communicate sexually with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and possessing indecent images of children.
He was sentenced at Hull Crown Court to a 16-month suspended prison term, a sex offenders' treatment program, and 15 days' rehabilitation.
Additionally, he was issued a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and is required to register as a sex offender for the same duration.
