GREENOCK MAN CONVICTED OF POSSESSING INDECENT IMAGES OF CHILDREN AND BESTIALITY
A creep has been found guilty of possessing hundreds of indecent images of children - after a jury rejected his claim that the horrific photos could have been put on his phone by someone else at a 'chem sex' party.Shaun Paul Latham, from Greenock, was convicted of three charges following a trial at Greenock Sheriff Court this week.
Police found more than 550 images on Latham's phone, in a file labelled 'XXX', after raiding his home in the town.
As well as depictions of child sexual exploitation, some of the pictures also showed extreme pornography involving animals.
Latham’s home was searched by police in March 2023, with two mobile phones and a laptop being seized and analysed.
Expert witnesses confirmed he was the sole user of the device, and described 'large amounts' of searches for content involving animals.
Latham claimed that the material must have been downloaded onto his phone by others, possibly during 'chem sex' parties involving drug use, where attendees had access to his phone and the device’s password was taped to its back.
He stated that he allowed his phone to be used to cast pornography onto a TV and that some people used his phone to order taxis when leaving his property.
Jurors found him guilty of taking, permitting to be taken, or making indecent images of children, and possessing such images between November 2020 and February 2023.
The jury also unanimously convicted him of possessing images depicting bestiality during the same period.
His previous plea of guilty to failing to attend a hearing at Dumbarton Sheriff Court was noted.
The sheriff deferred sentence for background reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment, with Latham’s bail continued.
He is due back in court on April 25.
