MIDDLESBROUGH MAN 'LOST THE PLOT' WHEN RELATIONSHIP ENDED
Shaun Green, aged 39, reacted violently when his long-term partner informed him of the end of their relationship. He arrived uninvited at her home, begged her, and then became aggressive.
He picked up and slammed a chair to the floor repeatedly, before dropping to the ground, grabbing her legs, and stating 'we can work through this.' The relationship officially ended a few days later, when she told him he was no longer welcome at her home.
The following day, he went to her bedroom and began removing his belongings.
On an subsequent visit, he damaged her mobile phone and pinned her to the bed, shouting and screaming.
After being released on bail, he sent her messages filled with anger, hurt, and pleas, though they were not deemed threatening.
Green pleaded guilty to stalking with fear of violence from March 25 to April 22 and to criminal damage on April 3.
He was sentenced to a two-year community order with additional rehabilitation sessions, ordered to pay £500 in compensation, and issued with a five-year restraining order.
The court heard he had spent 12 weeks in custody, which was considered equivalent to a six-month sentence, and his lawyer urged the court to treat this time as time served.
The judge, Recorder Paul Reid, emphasized that responsibility for the relationship breakdown did not matter and highlighted the impact on the victim, stating she had to change her locks for safety and felt like a prisoner in her own home.
