WITNEY MAN FOUND GUILTY OF MULTIPLE SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES
GUILTY verdicts have been delivered to Shane Windebank, a 31-year-old man from Witney, who was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault at Oxford Crown Court. The offences, all committed in 2021, involved inappropriate touching of a woman, including touching her bottom on multiple occasions and attempting to kiss her.
The court heard that Windebank also exposed himself and put her hand on his genitalia.
The victim, who is unnamed for legal reasons, testified that Windebank had started touching her breasts and bottom "whenever he could" during their interactions, despite her making it clear she was not interested.
She recounted an incident where he tried to kiss her after stopping her bike, which was interrupted by his partner coming over.
The court described how Windebank kept making inappropriate remarks and at one point took her hand and placed it on his penis.
The victim explicitly told Windebank to leave and expressed her concern about children witnessing such behavior.
Windebank denied the charges, claiming his actions were misinterpreted or consensual, and his barrister suggested she had been flirtatious, a claim she denied.
The jury took only a few days to reach a verdict, finding Windebank guilty on all counts.
He will be sentenced on June 14 at the same court.
Windebank's conduct has been described as inappropriate and criminal by the court, with the case highlighting serious issues of sexual misconduct and abuse.
