SHANE ROBERTS FROM BUCKLEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN BUCKLEY HOUSE INTRUSION
In a disturbing case that unfolded in Buckley, a man named Shane Michael Roberts was convicted of breaking into a residence late at night and sexually assaulting two teenage girls. The incident, which took place on November 19 of the previous year, led to Roberts being sentenced to four years in prison.Roberts, aged 33 and residing on Lime Grove in Buckley, faced charges of trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence and sexually assaulting the two young girls. Despite his denial of the allegations, the jury at Caernarfon Crown Court found him guilty after a thorough trial. During the proceedings, Roberts claimed that he was heavily intoxicated, stating he had been very drunk and had snorted cocaine prior to the incident. He also argued that he had been invited into the house and suggested that one of the girls had been flirtatious towards him, attempting to justify his actions.
The judge presiding over the case, Huw Rees, expressed his condemnation of Roberts’ actions, emphasizing the trauma inflicted upon the victims. He described the experience as frightening for the girls and underscored that such an event should never have occurred. In light of the jury’s guilty verdict, Judge Rees ordered Roberts to be subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and mandated that he remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Prosecutor Matthew Curtis detailed the sequence of events, stating that Roberts “forced his way” into the house and sexually touched the girls without their consent. The incident was reportedly triggered when the father of one of the victims left the house to visit a nearby supermarket. During this time, he received a distress call from his daughter, who was hysterical and clearly upset. It is believed that Roberts may have observed the father leaving, which possibly prompted his decision to intrude.
According to Mr. Curtis, shortly after the father’s departure, the girls heard a knock at the front door. Roberts then allegedly pushed the girls onto a sofa and committed the assault. Police investigations revealed that Roberts’s mobile phone contained messages of a sexualised nature sent to other females just hours before the incident. These messages, which were examined by authorities, suggested that Roberts was not as intoxicated or out of control as he had claimed, but was actively engaging in sexualised communication shortly before the trespass and assault.
The case highlights the serious nature of the offence and the impact on the victims, with the court taking a firm stance on such conduct. Roberts’s actions have been condemned, and his sentencing reflects the gravity of his crimes committed in Buckley.
