SEBASTIAN MROZ

On Friday, 21 February, Sebastian Mroz appeared before Chester Crown Court and was sentenced to a prison term of 13 months for assaulting his partner and exerting control over her movements and communication.

The 33-year-old resident of Crewe was also granted a Restraining Order that barred him from making any contact with the victim.

The sentencing followed an incident reported on 6 September 2024, when officers from Crewe Local Policing Unit responded to a 999 call from a 39-year-old woman who alleged she was assaulted at her home near Crewe town centre by her partner.

Upon arrival, officers were approached outside the residence by Mroz, who claimed that his television had fallen and shattered, injuring his partner.

Inside the property, officers found the woman, who had called emergency services, and spoke both to her and Mroz separately.

The woman revealed she had been staying with a friend and had come to pick up belongings to end her relationship with Mroz.

Under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Mroz responded violently, pushing her into the television and causing a deep cut on her leg.

She also stated that Mroz had confiscated her phone after she called police, but she managed to retrieve it before officers arrived.

She further disclosed that she had been assaulted days earlier when she first attempted to break up with him, with Mroz dragging her across the floor.

Although she shared these details, she was hesitant to give a formal statement.

Mroz was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and taken into custody.

He was later released on bail under strict conditions, including not contacting the victim or returning to their shared address.

Nevertheless, Mroz breached these conditions by engaging with the victim and her family, even messaging her son and threatening to burn her house and break her windows.

Eventually, the victim provided a statement, describing her life as a "living nightmare" due to Mroz's constant accusations of infidelity and his efforts to prevent her from leaving.

In her statement, she reported that since ending the relationship, Mroz had persistently contacted her, including a day where he called 32 times.

He was also found outside her home early on 4 November, demanding to speak with her, which was a violation of his bail terms.

On 8 November, officers arrested Mroz again after a new 999 call from the victim, during which he inquired about her whereabouts, who she was with, and insisted on visiting her, despite her reluctance and the ongoing restrictions.

During police interviews regarding his harassment, Mroz admitted to multiple unwanted contacts but insisted he only wanted to resolve their issues.

He denied stalking her.

Subsequently, he was charged and summoned to court on 31 January 2025, where he pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour and section 47 assault.

On 21 February, he was sentenced to 13 months in prison and received an indefinite Restraining Order to prevent further contact after his release.
