DOMESTIC ABUSER JAILED AFTER CAMPAIGN OF CONTROLLING AND COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR
On Monday, 19 January, Chester Crown Court sentenced Brandon Pogonowski, from Moreton Road, Crewe, to 21 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive conduct. He was also instructed to adhere to a restraining order to protect his former partner.
Pogonowski, aged 29, was found guilty of driving a woman into social and physical isolation, attempting to control her everyday life.
In June 2025, Cheshire Police responded to an abandoned 999 call where voices of a man and woman shouting could be heard.
The call originated from a residence in Crewe, where officers arrived to find the female victim who disclosed she had suffered abuse at the hands of Pogonowski.
The abuse included social isolation, restrictions on her outings, monitoring her location, and malicious false allegations to her employers, leading to her job loss.
He also subjected her to frequent verbal insults, including names and threats to 'kill herself.' Control over her alcohol intake and persistent contact when apart were noted, alongside the posting of explicit images online for humiliation.
The victim previously reported Pogonowski to police, but she claimed he encouraged her to retract her statements.
After his arrest and interviews, Pogonowski was released on bail with restrictions, and a Domestic Violence Protection Order was issued.
During her police interview, the victim faced ongoing harassment as Pogonowski made 18 calls from an undisclosed number while she was at the police station.
