MAN JAILED FOR RAPING AND ASSAULTING WOMAN AT HOTEL
A 37-year-old man from Crewe has received a 16-year prison sentence after being convicted of multiple offenses, including raping and assaulting a woman at a local hotel.John Dawson, whose residence is on Ernest Street, appeared before Chester Crown Court on October 16 for sentencing following his conviction.
The charges against him included two counts of rape, intentional strangulation, assault, two charges of threatening to share intimate images or videos, and engaging in controlling or coercive behavior.
The case originated from an assault allegation at a Travelodge situated on Beswick Drive.
Further inquiries revealed that Dawson had exerted control over the woman financially by withdrawing money from her bank account, accessed her social media profiles and messaging apps, and deliberately isolated her from friends and family.
He also used insulting language and physically assaulted her.
Dawson denied the allegations but was found guilty after a trial held in July 2025.
A second man involved was acquitted of rape charges.
DC Katherine Isherwood-Smith commented: "Dawson's behaviour towards this woman was criminal and abhorrent.
Dawson was deemed so dangerous to women that the courts jailed him for a substantial period.
"No one should ever be subjected to such degrading, manipulative and arrogant behaviour, and I hope seeing this man behind bars for a considerable time encourages others to come forward who may be suffering abuse.
"And, I hope it goes as a warning to those who inflict such horrific acts that society does not tolerate violence or abuse against anyone."
