DOMESTIC ABUSER WITH 'HORRIFIC' CRIMINAL RECORD JAILED AFTER STRING OF ASSAULTS ON PARTNER
A domestic abuser with a "horrific" criminal record has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison after committing a series of assaults on his partner.Over a six-month period, Sean Phee, 33, choked the woman, burst her lip, gave her a black eye, and battered her on the head with a bottle.
At Airdrie Sheriff Court, it was revealed that despite the repeated violence, she expressed a desire to continue her relationship with Phee.
Sheriff Paul Haran noted his "serious concerns" for her safety and imposed a five-year non-harassment order preventing Phee from having any contact with her.
Phee admitted to engaging in a course of abusive conduct from April 2024 to April this year while on early release from prison.
The court heard that the assaults took place at the home he shared with his father in Coll Drive, Coatbridge.
The violence often flared when the couple had been drinking, and Phee also subjected her to verbal abuse.
Specific incidents included Phee slapping her, causing a bloodied lip, punching her, which left her eye badly swollen, spitting in her face, smashing a TV screen, and hitting her on the head with a bottle.
The woman was covered in blood, and police had to hospitalize her after a 10cm cut to her head was stitched.
Phee has a long history of domestic offending, and despite previous custodial sentences, he has continued similar conduct upon release.
Phee’s defence cited struggles with alcohol and claimed that he had never committed an offence when sober, expressing hope for assistance in custody.
Sheriff Haran sentenced him to 33 months, emphasizing the seriousness of his record and the danger posed to the woman and others, stating, "You have a horrific record for domestic offending.
You have received a number of custodial sentences, none of which seem to have deterred you from similar conduct on your release.
This was prolonged offending.
Given your record, I have serious concerns for the safety of this woman and, indeed, any other person you get into a relationship with." The court also issued a five-year non-harassment order to protect the victim.
