MAN ABDUCTED AND BATTERED BY RAPISTS TOOK OWN LIFE WEEKS BEFORE TRIAL
Nathan Dawson, 20, was abducted and assaulted by brothers Craig and Daniel Gallacher.
Craig Gallacher, 41, was jailed for 47 months for his involvement, while Daniel Gallacher, 30, received a 32-month sentence.
They each previously served six years for rape.
The court heard they kidnapped Nathan in Coatbridge, drove him to a remote spot near Cumbernauld, where Daniel beat him repeatedly with a wrench, leaving him injured.
Sheriff Tony McGlennan described the abduction as "very sinister" and "premeditated and calculating." Nathan had expressed fears of giving evidence against the brothers, who admitted abducting him.
Nathan took his own life three weeks before their trial, with the family believing it was a consequence of the trauma inflicted.
The sheriff imposed a non-harassment order banning Craig Gallacher from contact with Nathan's family for 20 years.
