MAN THREATENED TO HARM HIMSELF IN DRUNKEN RAGE
A RENFREW man who threatened to kill himself and began cutting his wrist with a kitchen knife had returned home from a night out in a drunken rage.Scott Neil McMurray, 23, terrified his family and girlfriend with a threat to kill himself at 5am after spending an hour shouting abuse and swearing at them.
McMurray, of Vanguard Way, took his trouser belt and struck himself on the forehead with it before storming to the kitchen, grabbing a knife, and pressing it against his left wrist.
At Paisley Sheriff Court last week McMurray admitted to acting in a disorderly manner on May 29 of this year, shouting, swearing, pushing a woman, taking possession of a knife and threatening to cause harm to himself with it, and breaching the peace.
McMurray's defence agent referred to the incident as 'a cry for help'.
He said: "Around this time, McMurray was enduring a difficult custody situation.
For McMurray this seemed to be a situation he couldn't see any way of resolving.
That evening he'd had an argument with his girlfriend, went out, consumed a substantial amount of drink and came home.
He'd been feeling low and drinking and so it was a volatile situation.
Everything got on top of him and he couldn't see a way out.
His family and his girlfriend have very much stuck by him since the incident and he has no previous convictions." Sheriff Pender said: "I will defer sentence for six months.
If you're of good behaviour during that time you will dealt with leniently.
If not, you're in trouble." McMurray was told to return to court on February 4 2010.
