SCOTLAND HOCKEY PLAYER SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC MURDER OF LAUREN WILSON
On 26 May 2021, Craig Walker, 41 and a former Scottish hockey player, committed a heinous murder in Renfrew. He attacked Lauren Wilson with such brutality that she sustained 77 injuries, including 29 stab wounds.
Prosecutors described the assault as savage, noting that Walker strangled and stabbed Ms Wilson after discovering she was about to tell his wife about their affair.
Afterwards, he placed her body into a sports bag with the intent of hiding her.
Throughout the court proceedings, Walker denied that he had murdered her, instead claiming that her injuries occurred during a frantic struggle and that he had tried to wrest a knife from her.
The prosecution revealed that Walker had reacted violently, aiming to silence Ms Wilson, who was allegedly planning to contact his wife.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 21 years at the High Court in Glasgow.
The case also showed that Walker attempted to obstruct justice; police found Ms Wilson’s disfigured body, wrapped in bedding and electrical tape, in a residence in Renfrew.
Evidence indicated he had attempted to clean the scene using a hoover, wipes, and a mop to cover up the crime.
The court highlighted the emotional toll on Ms Wilson’s young daughter and her relatives, condemning Walker’s callous conduct in depriving a young girl of her mother’s care and love.
