RENFREW MAN GUILTY OF HISTORIC SEX OFFENCES AGAINST SCHOOLGIRLS
NEWS CLIPPINGS ATTACHED - A Bishopton man has been found guilty of a string of historic sex offences against two schoolgirls dating back more than 40 years.Leslie Kelly, now in his sixties, was convicted this week of indecent assaults carried out in Renfrew between 1976 and 1979.
At the time, Kelly was in his early twenties while his victims were just 12 and 11 years old.
The jury heard how Kelly preyed on the girls — who shared the same surname — making crude comments, touching one of them inappropriately, and on another occasion lifting a skirt and striking one of the children over her underwear.
The offences took place on Nevis Road, Renfrew, and left a devastating impact on the victims, who are now women in their sixties.
Both bravely gave evidence from behind screens during the trial.
Kelly, who has lived in Bishopton in recent years, had denied the charges but was unanimously found guilty following a trial at court.
Sentencing will take place at a later date, where Kelly faces the prospect of a custodial sentence for the crimes that robbed two children of their innocence more than four decades ago.
