BOLTON MAN HANDED SUSPENDED SENTENCE FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
A Bolton man named Scott Lever, aged 36, who repeatedly attacked his then-partner has been handed a suspended sentence in court.
The court heard that Lever pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour as well as assault during a hearing related to his ex-partner.
The relationship between Lever and his partner started in 2017, and it deteriorated when she became pregnant in 2018.
Court proceedings revealed that despite living in a two-car household, Lever would insist on driving his ex-partner to and from work.
If she refused, he accused her of having an affair.
The victim endured repeated verbal abuse including name-calling, insults about her appearance, and accusations of being unfaithful.
Lever also became physically violent towards her on multiple occasions, including one incident just 23 days after she gave birth.
CCTV footage from their shared home on December 17, 2019, showed Lever attacking her physically.
The victim's personal statement described feeling scared and isolated, and having lost her sense of self, feeling trapped and like a punching bag for Lever’s anger.
Her statement expressed her exhaustion and desire for a peaceful life with her daughter, free from fear.
During the hearing, the defendant's lawyer highlighted his good character and mental health issues.
Judge Jon Close sentenced Lever to two years suspended for two years, with a twenty-day programme requirement, a six-month curfew, and 25 hours of unpaid work.
He was also subjected to a five-year restraining order against his ex-partner.
