PERTHSHIRE CAR DEALER JAILED FOR COVERT LOVE SPYING
A stalker who secretly installed a camera in his wife’s alarm clock and hired another person to spy on her has received a jail sentence for over a year.Auchterarder man Scott Ennis was sentenced to 16 months behind bars and was given a non-harassment order on Tuesday, following a campaign of stalking that lasted four years.
Ennis, aged 50, was convicted at Perth Sheriff Court in April, having taken extreme and invasive measures to investigate if his wife Louisa was unfaithful.
He installed covert devices at his residence, recorded her conversations, and paid a staff member to follow her.
Ennis gifted his wife an alarm clock with a hidden camera and bugged her workplace, all while suspecting her of infidelity with a partner in his used car business.
This harassment began a decade into their marriage, and only unraveled after four years of covert stalking, leading to the breakdown of their relationship.
The sheriff described Ennis's actions as causing his wife significant anxiety and called his campaign "despicable," leading to his imprisonment.
The court also accused him of 'gaslighting' his partner.
Ennis had suspected his wife was cheating with David Welsh, a colleague in his business, which prompted his spying activities from January 2015 until August 2019.
His ex-wife only learned of the spying when she noticed a strange device connected to her Wi-Fi and discovered it was her husband’s secret camera streaming video from her bedroom.
The court heard that she began a new relationship with Mr Welsh in 2019 after leaving Ennis.
One of Ennis's employees, Adam Horton, admitted his role in the spying, having been sent to monitor her movements and communications.
Ennis’s defense articulated that he felt regret and was struggling emotionally due to the failing marriage, which he claimed had driven him into a state of extreme jealousy.
He admitted to installing the covert camera, microphone, and using tracking software, as well as manipulating items in her garden and having his employee record her interactions.
Sheriff Wood noted that Ennis's behavior was shocking, especially when confronted, as he initially denied spying on his wife.
