MIDDLESBROUGH SHOP WORKER CAUGHT WITH INDECENT IMAGES OF YOUNG GIRLS
A shop worker from Middlesbrough, Saywan Karim, was found to have kept a collection of illegal images of young girls on his phone.Cleveland Police executed a search on his Tavistock Street residence on May 2 of the previous year.
During the investigation, it was revealed that he had downloaded a total of 26 illegal images, with 17 classified as Category A, the most serious level.
The charges covered the period from April 9 to May 3, 2023.
Karim admitted to possessing 17 Category A images, five Category B images, and four Category C images.
Despite claiming to Probation Service officers that he lacked sexual interest in children, Judge Jonathan Carroll rejected this assertion, citing the search terms used on his device as evidence of his intent.
The court noted that the images involved very young females and considered this an aggravating factor.
His defense lawyer emphasized that the offenses were non-contact in nature and highlighted his good character and employment in a shop in Middlesbrough.
Karim was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Additionally, he is required to complete 180 hours of unpaid work, attend 40 days of rehabilitation, register on the Sex Offender Register for ten years, and adhere to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
The judge also ordered the case details to be sent to the Home Office and Border Force for potential immigration review.
