SAMUEL BELL SENTENCED IN GALASHIELS FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN THE BORDERS REGION
Samuel Bell, a 43-year-old resident of Galashiels, has been handed a significant prison sentence following his conviction for multiple sexual assaults committed within the Borders area.The sentencing took place at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, where Bell was sentenced to serve 29 months behind bars for his crimes.
The court proceedings revealed that Bell was responsible for attacking one woman at his residence on Croft Street in Galashiels during January 2020.
This particular assault was carried out in the privacy of his home, and the victim was compelled to give evidence during the trial, as Bell maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.
In addition to the incident at his home, the court heard that Bell was involved in a series of assaults on another woman over a span of several years.
These assaults occurred at various locations, including addresses in Lauder, Tweedbank, and the Borders General Hospital.
The timeline of these offenses stretched from March 2015 to March 2018, indicating a pattern of predatory behavior over a three-year period.
Throughout the trial, Bell continued to deny the allegations made against him, which necessitated the victim to testify in court to establish the facts.
The court found the evidence presented to be compelling enough to convict Bell of the charges.
In addition to his prison sentence, Sheriff Peter Paterson imposed a 10-year notification requirement under the Sexual Offences Act.

2004 Birthday rapist given six years A man who raped a teenager as she returned home from her 17th birthday celebrations in Galashiels has been jailed for six years.
Samuel Bell, 24, grabbed her after she fell out with a girlfriend and walked home alone on 15 November last year.
Bell had denied rape, claiming the girl had consented to sex, but was convicted previously by a jury.
Passing sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh, Lord Philip said Bell had subjected her to a "terrifying attack".
Bell's lawyer told the court that the accused, a single man who worked in a shop, had led a "well-balanced and unremarkable life" up to this point.
Impact on victim A prison sentence was inevitable after the conviction but he added that Bell would find it difficult to bear, given his background.
Lord Philip said: "It is depressing that someone of your good work record and background has been found guilty of a crime such as this." The judge also said that the rape had had a "significant effect" on the victim's psychological health.
Bell's name is to be added to the sex offenders' register.
