MAN ADMITS CHILD IMAGE OFFENCES – PUT ON SEX OFFENDERS REGISTER
A man from Galashiels has been placed on the sex offenders register after admitting disturbing offences involving indecent images of children.
Daniel Emery, 38, of St Andrews Street, stood before Selkirk Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to possessing illegal images and distributing them.
The court heard that the offences related to indecent images of children, sparking serious concern.
A third charge – relating to taking, or allowing indecent photographs of children to be taken – was dropped after a not guilty plea was accepted by the Crown.
Despite the guilty pleas, Emery has not yet been sentenced.
The court has deferred sentencing until next month while a criminal justice social work report is prepared, alongside an assessment for a restriction of liberty order.
Sheriff Colm Dempsey has already ordered that Emery be made subject to the notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act – meaning he is now on the sex offenders register.
The full extent of his punishment will be decided at the next hearing.
