SAM WHITING FROM BRIDLINGTON JAILED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF UNDERAGE GIRL IN BRIDLINGTON
In June 2018, a disturbing case emerged involving a young man from Bridlington who was convicted of serious sexual misconduct against a minor.Sam Whiting, aged 21 at the time of sentencing, was sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with a girl who was underage.
The incident took place after Whiting had taken the girl back to his flat in Bridlington, where he was seen to have provided her with alcohol and engaged in inappropriate conduct.
According to court proceedings, Whiting, who was 20 years old at the time, encountered a group of youths outside a pub in Bridlington in July of the previous year.
During this encounter, he offered the girl one and a half cans of beer before leading the group to his residence.
The journey to his flat involved climbing over a wall to access his back garden, indicating a deliberate attempt to bring the girl into a private setting.
Once inside, the court heard that Whiting and the girl drank alcohol and played music.
At one point, he took her to the bathroom and made a disturbing comment, saying, “don’t worry, I won’t rape you.” Despite this reassurance, he proceeded to kiss her and engage in other sexual activities that left her feeling shocked and uncomfortable.
The court was told that the girl felt uneasy about the situation, but the activities continued until her brother and grandmother arrived, expressing concern over her whereabouts.
Upon their arrival, Whiting fled out of the back door of his flat and went to his girlfriend’s house.
Police later located him there.
During the investigation, Whiting claimed he was unaware of the girl’s true age until a pre-trial hearing, at which point he pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual activity with a minor.
Judge Jeremy Richardson QC addressed the court, stating, “I don’t think he went out of his way to abuse this girl.
Although she wasn’t happy, she went along with it and possibly if she said it would have stopped.
But he was the adult and he should have stopped with the girl being the age she was.” The judge emphasized the gravity of the offense, condemning Whiting’s actions as shameful and disgraceful.
He sentenced Whiting to five years in prison and imposed a five-year order preventing him from being around children unsupervised.
Additionally, Whiting was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register, reflecting the serious nature of his misconduct and its impact on the victim.
