MAN WHO ASSAULTED EX-PARTNER AND DROVE OFF IN HER CAR JAILED
A man responsible for assaulting his ex-partner and subsequently stealing her car in Burntwood has been sentenced to prison.Sam Newbrook, aged 25 and from Newcastle-under-Lyme, visited a pub where his former partner was present in September of the previous year.
During the visit, he struck her on the head with his palm.
After the survivor left the pub and went to a different address, Newbrook followed her.
The survivor then started driving him home, but had to pull over on Sycamore Road in Burntwood due to Newbrook becoming increasingly agitated within the vehicle.
Once outside the car, Newbrook forcibly pulled the survivor to the ground, took her keys, and drove away.
Police located Newbrook driving at the Bowling Green roundabout in Lichfield.
He did not stop when police signaled him to, continuing to drive until he abandoned the vehicle in Burntwood.
Officers found Newbrook at the survivor’s residence, where he was arrested and taken into custody for investigation.
He faced multiple charges, including robbery, assault causing injury, harassment without violence, motor vehicle theft without the owner’s consent, and driving while disqualified.
Newbrook admitted to all charges during an earlier court hearing.
On Tuesday, 9 June, he was sentenced to four years and two months in prison at Stafford Crown Court.
Additionally, he was issued a restraining order prohibiting contact with the survivor for a period of seven years.
