HALIFAX MAN SAJID ADALAT JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE
A total of 20 men have received prison sentences exceeding 200 years collectively after an extensive investigation into historical child sexual abuse in Calderdale.The men were collectively sentenced to 219 years following their conviction for raping and abusing young girls.
These cases resulted from separate investigations and court trials which established that four girls aged 12 to 16 had been sexually exploited and assaulted by the defendants in Calderdale.
Initial court restrictions enacted to protect the legal process have now been lifted.
Among those convicted is Sajid Adalat, aged 48 and from Halifax, who was sentenced to seven years after being found guilty of rape.
The investigation leading to his conviction began in 2016, centering on allegations involving two victims aged 13 to 16, spanning from 2006 to 2009.
At Bradford Crown Court on October 21, Adalat was sentenced following his conviction for rape, with the sentence reflecting the severity of the crimes.
This trial was part of a broader campaign to address and bring to justice multiple offenders responsible for child sexual abuse over several years.
Authorities have stressed the importance of victims reporting abuse, with police affirming that it is never too late to seek help.
Detective Chief Inspector Claire Smith from Calderdale Police praised the victims and survivors for their bravery, reaffirming the police’s commitment to fighting child sexual exploitation.
She said: "Combating child sexual exploitation and abuse remains a top priority for West Yorkshire Police and our partners.
These crimes are deeply damaging and have lasting effects on victims.
We hope these prosecutions serve as a reminder that we will continue our efforts to imprison offenders and protect vulnerable individuals."
