RYAN NORMAN FROM EBBW VALE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN GWENT
In a recent court case held at Newport Crown Court, Ryan Norman, a 45-year-old resident of Ebbw Vale, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing a significant collection of child sexual abuse images and extreme pornography.The case sheds light on the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the distribution and possession of such illegal material.
Norman's arrest followed a police raid on his residence earlier this year, during which electronic devices were seized.
These devices contained over 200 indecent images of children, a fact confirmed by prosecutor Marian Lewis during the court proceedings.
The images were categorized into different levels of severity, with 77 classified as Category A, indicating the most serious form of abuse, 66 as Category B, and 76 as Category C.
The court was also informed that Norman possessed an extreme pornographic image depicting an act likely to cause serious injury to a person's private parts.
Norman, who resides at Cendl Crescent, Rassau, pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images of children.
His crimes spanned a period from August 2013 to January 2022, highlighting a prolonged period of illegal activity.
The court took into account his early guilty pleas, which may have influenced the sentencing decision.
Judge Daniel Williams sentenced Norman to 12 months in prison.
Additionally, Norman is required to register as a sex offender for the next ten years and is subject to a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
As part of the court's order, Norman will also be responsible for paying a victim surcharge of £122 upon his release from incarceration.
Furthermore, a deprivation order was issued concerning several electronic devices, including a mobile phone, an iPhone, an HP laptop, and USB sticks, which were confiscated as part of the investigation.
Gwent Police have declined to release a custody photograph of Norman, maintaining confidentiality in the case.
The sentencing underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to address and penalize the possession and distribution of child exploitation material, aiming to protect vulnerable individuals and prevent further abuse.
