EBBW VALE TEENAGER RAPED GIRL AFTER THEY HAD SMOKED CANNABIS
A teenager has been locked up for raping a girl when she was asleep after they had smoked cannabis together.Alfie Lee, now 19, from Ebbw Vale was aged 16 when she sexually assaulted his victim in the summer of 2023.
He was found guilty by a jury following a trial of rape after he denied any wrongdoing.
The defendant has been assessed by the probation service as posing a “high risk” to the public.
He has been classed as a dangerous offender and was sent to a young offender institution for six years.
Judge Shomon Khan said to Lee: “Your victim was asleep and defenceless at the time.” “When she woke up, you told her that she wanted it.” The judge added: “You denied any sexual activity to the police and you maintained your position at trial.
“The evidence against you was overwhelming, in my view, and the jury unanimously found you guilty.
You are in denial and have minimised your criminality.” Georgina Buckley, prosecuting, said the offence has had a “psychological impact” on the complainant.
Judge Khan praised the victim for the courage she had shown during the trial and for reading out her impact statement during sentence at Cardiff Crown Court She said in her statement: “I’m still struggling with my anxiety.
“Putting me through the court process was a traumatic experience and a stressful time.” She added: “Now that he has been found guilty, this is a chapter I feel I can finally move away from.” The defendant has six previous convictions but none that were relevant.
In 2024, she was locked up for six months for possession of a bladed article after being caught with a dagger in the street in Blackwood.
Christopher Evans representing Lee said: “The strongest mitigation here has to be his young age.
“He was 16 at the time of the offence and is only 19 now.” His barrister told the court that his client was “emotionally immature” and had spent some of his childhood in the care system.
Mr Evans added: “He is supported by his father who is in court today.
“He has self-harmed and tried to take his own life.
He knows it’s going to be term of imprisonment and the impact of the sentence is going to be difficult for him to deal with.
“This appears to be an isolated incident.” Lee was made the subject of an extended custodial sentence.
He was sent to a young offender institution for four years, plus an extended licence period of two years.
The defendant will have to register as a sex offender for life and an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim was imposed.
