SON'S 'HORRIBLE' ABUSE AGAINST FATHER INCLUDED POURING BOILING WATER ON HIM
A man has been jailed for the horrific abuse against his father - including beating him, kicking him and pouring boiling water on him.Rutger McNally, 29, of Cranwell Road in Broxtowe, was sentenced to two years and eight months in jail at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, July 14.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of battery, two counts of actual bodily harm and one count of assault with intent to rob.
Nottinghamshire Police were first called to Cranwell Road in Broxtowe on October 19, 2019, to a report that McNally had been verbally abusive to his father and had hit him several times on the head.
McNally was arrested and removed from the property.
The son then returned to the address on December 20, 2019, and asked to stay there.
At 10am that morning, McNally woke his father up by hitting him over the head with a remote control.
He then began to kick and punch his father in an attack which lasted for around 15 minutes.
Police were not called on this occasion.
McNally again woke his father up on December 21, this time demanding money.
When his father told McNally that he had no money to give him, he punched him forcefully in the eye.
McNally was repeatedly asked to leave, but he refused.
The violence escalated further on December 22, when McNally poured boiling water on his father, burning his leg.
After this incident McNally’s father tried to get away from the house, but McNally caught up with him and took both sets of house keys to restrict his father’s movements.
On December 23, McNally launched a final attack which left his father needing hospital treatment.
After hitting him and again demanding money, McNally eventually left the house with two mobile phones which belonged to his father.
His father went outside and asked someone he knew to call the police after this attack, which had left him in a lot of pain and bleeding heavily.
Police arrived and took him to hospital, where he was found to have a broken nose and a broken eye socket.
Detective Constable Emma Grimley said: “This was a horrible campaign of abuse by McNally against his dad, who was good enough to take him in – and it was all because of money for drugs.
“I would like to thank Mr McNally for his bravery in coming forward and standing up to his son, something which I know was incredibly difficult to deal with.
“I hope this prison sentence shows that violence of this kind is completely unacceptable and has serious consequences.”
