MARK FOSTER OF BROXTOWE ESTATE SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN NOTTINGHAM

In a case that has spanned decades, Mark Foster, a 46-year-old man residing on Amesbury Circus within the Broxtowe Estate, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison for a series of heinous crimes committed against young children. The offenses, which took place between 1979 and 1991, involved the repeated sexual abuse of a young girl as well as assaults on her brother and sister.

Foster's crimes came to light after the victim, who was between the ages of seven and ten at the time of the abuse, finally decided to come forward in her early thirties. Her decision to report the incidents led to Foster's arrest in June 2008, nearly two decades after the last known offense. The victim's mother had initially employed Foster as a babysitter, trusting him to care for her children while she attended Bible study sessions twice a week. Foster's mother had offered his services, believing him to be a reliable caregiver.

The family was residing in the Strelley area at the time of the abuse. The victim's allegations detailed a pattern of repeated sexual assaults, which she endured during her childhood. The case was brought before Nottingham Crown Court, where Foster faced a series of serious charges. The court found him guilty unanimously of multiple offenses, including indecent assault of a female, five counts of rape on a child, seven counts of gross indecency on a child, and two counts of indecent assault on a male.

The trial, which took place in June, was adjourned for reports before the sentencing phase. Judge Joan Butler, QC, presided over the case and imposed strict penalties on Foster. She ordered that he be banned from working with children in any capacity and mandated that he sign the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Jeff Julious, the officer responsible for investigating the case, expressed his commendation for the victims. He stated, “I would like to commend the victims in this case for their determination and courage in bringing this matter to the attention of the police and Crown Prosecution Service.” The case highlights the importance of perseverance and bravery among victims of childhood abuse, and the justice served underscores the seriousness with which such crimes are now addressed.
