A man who sexually assaulted a child over a 12-year period has been sentenced to 27 years in prison today.
⚖️ Royston Henderson, 53, from Middlesbrough, carried out the sickening abuse between 1997 and 2009.
His victim’s bravery in coming forward to report these offences led to a police investigation and charges, for which he was found guilty.
He appeared at Teesside Crown Court today, Friday 11th July, where he was sentenced to 27 years in prison for his crimes.
🗣️ Detective Sergeant Derric Wade of the Child Abuse and Vulnerable Adults Team said: “Henderson cruelly abused a child over a prolonged period of time, which of course has had a huge and long lasting impact on her life.
“Her bravery in coming forward to report these crimes has led to his conviction and a long sentence, which in turn will protect others from abuse at his hands.
I hope that today’s sentence can bring some closure to the victim and she can now begin to rebuild her life.” It’s never too late to report an incident to police; we have specially trained officers who will support you throughout.
