NOTTINGHAM MAN THREATENS EX WITH KNIFE AND SETS HOUSE BURNING THREATS
A 56-year-old man from Nottingham, Roy Shepard, was convicted of threatening his former partner with a knife and making dangerous threats.According to Nottingham Crown Court, Shepard loomed over his frightened former partner while he was in bed and repeatedly threatened to slit his throat.
He also declared he would burn down their shared house in Beeston.
The court heard that in the days prior, Shepard had sent threatening messages to another ex-partner, stating he would visit his workplace and kill him.
Judge Rosalind Coe KC sentenced Shepard to a 22-month jail term, suspended for two years, and ordered him to undergo a 12-month mental health treatment program, as well as attending 10 rehabilitation sessions.
She also issued a five-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the second victim.
Shepard pleaded guilty to making threats with an offensive weapon in a private place, making threats to commit criminal damage, and harassment.
Prosecutor Jon Fountain described how the incidents unfolded, including a night in August last year when Shepard leaned over his victim with a knife in hand, threatening to slit his throat and burn the house.
Shepard, now residing in Hucknall, admitted that his behaviour worsened after he stopped taking his medication and started drinking, citing trauma and bullying from his younger years as contributing factors.
