DARREN COLVILLE
His arrest followed the delivery of underwear to the girl, which contained his saliva DNA, detectable by authorities.
Darren Colville, aged 50, had his DNA discovered on the underwear sent through the mail—an item that was intercepted by the girl’s shocked parents.
This evidence led to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
At Leeds Crown Court, Colville was sentenced to almost four years in prison for his disturbing actions, which the judge described as “grotesquely graphic.” The court heard that Colville used the encrypted email platform Proton Mail to communicate with the girl, always maintaining anonymity while making sexual remarks.
His communication involved hundreds of emails over a period of two years, during which he attempted to lure her into sexual acts by sending explicit photos and demanding nude pictures from her.
He called her derogatory names and expressed a desire to have sex with her.
The girl later expressed fear of being watched but was unsure of who was behind the messages.
She repeatedly told him to stop, but he refused.
In September 2022, her mother discovered a parcel containing a matching set of bra and underwear, which Colville had sent.
The police analyzed the contents and confirmed Colville’s DNA on the underwear, leading to his arrest.
Despite two interviews with law enforcement, Colville denied the allegations and could not explain how his DNA was on the underwear.
Prosecutor Matthew Moore-Taylor stated that Colville admitted to offenses including encouraging a child to engage in sexual behavior, observing a sexual act, and engaging in sexual communication with a minor.
The judge, Recorder Bryan Cox, condemned his actions, emphasizing the grotesque nature of his campaign and the risks posed to the girl’s safety.
Colville was sentenced to 45 months in prison, received a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, and was placed on the sex offender register.
Additionally, a lifelong restraining order was issued to prevent any contact with the young girl again.
