NOTTINGHAM MAN CAUGHT WITH THOUSANDS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE
A man from Nottingham, Daniel Hanford, was found to possess more than 2,000 disturbing child abuse images on his electronic devices at his home in Beeston where he lives with his mother.
Nottingham Crown Court was told that Hanford's "deeply unpleasant offenses" involved him gaining sexual pleasure from viewing this vile material, which included cartoon depictions of children being abused.
The court was informed that Hanford, aged 34, has no prior criminal record but pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children, prohibited images, and possessing the most serious category A images, which show adults abusing young children.
Police, acting on information that an internet address linked to Hanford was downloading such images, raided his home on October 4, 2023.
Devices seizure revealed multiple images, including three of the most serious Category A, four of Category B, 1,929 of Category C, and 21 prohibited images consisting of cartoon depictions.
Hanford claimed he had been viewing "Russian pornography" and expressed remorse, supported by a letter from his mother who attended court.
The judge sentenced him to 12 months in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered him to undertake 30 rehabilitation sessions, undergo mental health treatment, perform 100 hours of unpaid work, register as a sex offender for ten years, and be subject to a ten-year sexual harm prevention order.
The judge emphasized the gravity of the crime and the potential harm it causes, despite Hanford's remorse and lack of previous convictions.
