2007: JAIL FOR VIOLENT RAZOR ATTACKER
A man spent New Year's in jail after he cut his girlfriend's neck with a razor blade.Ronnie Johnston, 24, also pulled Karen Walker's garden gate off its hinges, attacked her front door, and threatened to kill her during a night of violence in Bell Farm Avenue, York, magistrates heard.
Johnston pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage.
York magistrates jailed him for two months.
This was his third conviction for violence, and he had failed to respond to previous community sentences.
The prosecution stated that at 7pm on October 20, Johnston entered Ms Walker's house through a window.
During an argument, he pushed a safety razor to her neck and said, "It isn't over until I say it's over." The blade caused a 1cm cut.
Johnston then left, and Ms Walker went out for the evening.
Later, at 2:30am, he returned and ran towards her while she was talking to neighbours.
She went home, and Johnston took the gate off its post and attacked her front door, threatening her: "You had better let me in, or I will kill you." Ms Walker was too scared to let him in and called 999.
Johnston was getting conflicting signals from Ms Walker regarding whether she wanted him in the house.
Earlier in the evening, she had let him in so he could wash and shave, but they argued, and he held the razor against her neck with the plastic cover on and the blade pointing outwards.
Johnston drank alcohol while away from the house and got a message inviting him back.
He has accepted he has a problem and needs help, expressing extreme remorse for his actions which happened when he lost his temper.
