MAN JAILED FOR KILLING PARTNER IN CHILLING DOMESTIC HOMICIDE
A man who strangled his partner before asking for assistance to dispose of her body has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 17 years.Rojs Avaliani, aged 37, murdered Tamara Sinakova, aged 61, at their home located in Tamar Walk, Scunthorpe, on the 5th of January.
Despite denying the murder, Avaliani was found guilty by a jury after a trial at Hull Crown Court.
The court was told that the Latvian national had wrapped his hands and arms around her neck for two minutes.
Following the murder, Avaliani approached two intoxicated men on nearby Frodingham Road requesting their help in getting rid of her body.
During sentencing, Judge Roger Thomas QC remarked that Avaliani abused his power and was in a dominant position.
Tamara Sinakova, who was described as a heavy drinker, had arrived in the UK from Latvia in 2007.
Shortly after her arrival, she met Avaliani, who later moved into her residence.
The court also revealed that Avaliani had previous convictions for assault and battery against his other partner.
His defense lawyer, William Harbage QC, claimed Avaliani was provoked by his intoxicated partner and reacted out of impulse, losing his patience and temper.
Judge Thomas criticized Avaliani for his lack of remorse and noted that she was either unwilling or unable to escape his control, despite her ongoing emotional attachment.
A victim statement from Sinakova’s son, Arturs Sinakovs, emphasized the impact of the crime, saying: 'He has taken her money, her health, her dignity, and he has now taken her life.' He described his mother as 'the kindest, most loyal and selfless person' who was 'psychologically controlled' by Avaliani.
