MOTHER AND DAUGHTER BANNED AFTER DOG SAD AND NEGLECTED TO DEATH
A mother and daughter have been prohibited from keeping animals for ten years after their severely neglected dog, Sade, had to be euthanised.Candice Dakota Taylor, 24, from Southcliff in Kirton Lindsey, pleaded guilty to failing to protect the dog from pain, suffering, injury or disease at Grimsby Magistrates' Court on August 22.
Both offenders stated they had mental health issues and were unaware their dog was in pain.
Animal rescue officer Mollie Masters visited their property in 2024 following a welfare concern report and discovered Sade in an "appalling condition." The dog was suffering from severe matting, flea infestation, skin, eye, and ear disease, and was very underweight.
The fur was so severely matted that her face was hidden, and her tail was reportedly rock solid.
The dog also had pieces of wire and chewing gum embedded into her fur, with suspected tumors around her stomach and back.
Due to her critical condition, veterinarians decided euthanasia was the kindest option to end her suffering.
Taylor was sentenced to a 12-month community order, including 15 days of rehabilitation activities and a £120 fine.
Higson also received a 12-month community order, with five rehabilitation activity days and 40 hours of unpaid work.
Her ban on keeping animals will last ten years and includes her current pets, a cat and a dog, which will be rehomed by the RSPCA.
Insp Natalie Hill, who investigated for the RSPCA, commented that "This was a very sad outcome for a dog who had clearly been severely neglected.
There is no excuse for letting your dog get into such a sorry state."
