ROBERT TURNER FROM PETERHEAD AND KIRKCOLM SENTENCED FOR CHILD ABUSE IN SCOTLAND
In a recent court case that has shocked the local communities of Kirkcolm and Peterhead, Robert Turner, aged 58, was found guilty of sexually abusing a young boy over a prolonged period of fifteen months. The disturbing incidents took place between the years 2000 and 2002, while Turner was residing in a house near Kirkcolm. The victim was the son of Turner's wife, with whom he is now separated, adding a layer of personal betrayal to the case.Turner admitted to the assault charges during the court proceedings, acknowledging his misconduct. His legal representative argued that Turner was genuinely remorseful for his actions and suggested that a rehabilitation program would serve as a more effective form of punishment than incarceration. The lawyer emphasized that such programs are not available within the prison system, implying that alternative measures could better address Turner's rehabilitation needs.
However, Sheriff Kenneth Robb responded firmly to the arguments presented, stating that the severity of the crime warranted a custodial sentence. The sheriff expressed his view that a four-year prison term would be appropriate, but after considering the mitigation and remorse shown by Turner, he decided to reduce the sentence.
As a result, Robert Turner was sentenced to 16 months in prison. Additionally, he will be required to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years, a measure intended to protect the community and monitor his conduct moving forward. The case has left a lasting impact on the local communities of Kirkcolm and Peterhead, highlighting the ongoing need for vigilance and justice in cases of child abuse.
