ROBERT SMITH FROM GOOLE AND GRIMSBY JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING TEENAGE GIRL

In a case that has shocked the local communities of Goole and Grimsby, Robert Smith, aged 36, has been sentenced to four years in prison following a series of serious sexual offenses involving a teenage girl. Smith, who previously resided on Lord Street in Grimsby, admitted to engaging in multiple acts of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16, spanning from January of the previous year through February of this year.

During the proceedings at Grimsby Crown Court, prosecutor Patrick Palmer outlined the disturbing details of the case. It was revealed that Smith had been sending inappropriate and suggestive text messages to the young girl, which eventually led to a sexual relationship. The girl herself testified that their interactions had been ongoing for a significant period, describing their relationship as “messing around for ages together” and admitting that they had engaged in sexual acts “loads of times.” The court was also informed that other forms of sexual activity had taken place between the two.

Defense lawyer Michael Culshaw argued that the relationship was consensual and characterized by mutual affection. He emphasized that the girl had made it clear that she was never hurt or coerced into any activity, suggesting that there was no element of force or violence involved. Smith, a father of two, had been employed at the time of the offenses but is now facing the loss of his job as a consequence of his actions.

Judge David Tremberg addressed Smith directly during the sentencing, stating, “You allowed an amorous relationship to develop, which involved you and her in sexual conduct. Only time will tell how this will impact on her emotional well-being. You went on to offend on a repeated and serious basis over a period of a year.”

As part of his sentence, Smith was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was permanently banned from working with children. The case highlights the ongoing concerns about safeguarding minors and the importance of strict legal repercussions for those who breach these protections, especially in communities like Goole and Grimsby where such incidents can deeply affect local residents.
