GRIMSBY RAPIST GLEN YOUNG SENTENCED TO EIGHT YEARS FOR SHOCKING ASSAULT AND THEFT

Glen Young, a 21-year-old man from Grimsby with no fixed address, has been convicted of a serious sexual assault and theft, leading to a significant prison sentence.

The incident, which took place in Grimsby, has shocked the local community and highlighted issues surrounding trust and vulnerability.

Young pleaded guilty to the charge of rape during a court hearing at Grimsby Crown Court on Friday, 27 September 2024.

His admission of guilt came after a detailed investigation into the events that unfolded on the evening of Monday, 15 August, in the heart of Grimsby Town Centre.

According to reports, the victim, a woman who had been out with friends that evening, was preparing to walk home when she unexpectedly encountered Glen Young.

Recognizing him from mutual acquaintances, she initially thought he might be a helpful acquaintance.

Young offered to accompany her to ensure her safety as she made her way home, a gesture that seemed caring at first.

As they approached her residence, the woman handed Young her keys, trusting him to help her gain entry.

However, once inside her home, Young exploited her trust and subjected her to a sexual assault.

Following the assault, he took her purse and left the scene, leaving the woman traumatized and distressed.

Detective Constable Nichola Oakley, who led the investigation from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, expressed her condemnation of Young’s actions.

She described him as a “deviant rapist” who took advantage of someone he knew, violating her in her own home and then stealing her belongings.

Detective Oakley emphasized the breach of safety and trust that such acts represent, especially within the sanctity of one’s own residence.

She further commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward.

Despite the difficulty of recounting such a traumatic experience, the woman immediately confided in her friend and subsequently reported the incident to the police.

Detective Oakley highlighted that her courage was instrumental in ensuring that Young was brought to justice, stating, “Your home is somewhere we are supposed to feel safe, and this opportunistic individual used this to inflict pain and trauma on a vulnerable woman.” In court, Young was sentenced to eight years in prison for his crimes.

Additionally, he received a restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim or returning to her residence.

He will also be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure intended to protect the community and prevent further harm.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need to support victims of sexual violence.

The community of Grimsby is urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities, ensuring that offenders like Glen Young are held accountable for their actions.
