GLENN CHALK FROM GRIMSBY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO GIRLS IN NORTH EAST LINCOLNSHIRE
In a case that has shocked the local community of Grimsby and the surrounding North East Lincolnshire area, Glenn Chalk, a man aged 48, was sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of serious sexual offenses involving two young girls.The crimes, which took place between May and August of 2006, included the rape of one girl and sexual activity with both victims, actions that have left a lasting impact on the victims and the community alike.
Chalk, who was formerly residing on Dale View in Grimsby, was arrested after a series of incidents that came to light following the abuse.
The prosecution, led by Jonathan Carroll at Grimsby Crown Court, detailed how Chalk had engaged in repeated sexual acts with the girls over several months.
On at least one occasion, Chalk warned one of the victims, saying, “Don’t tell anyone because I can get done for rape,” highlighting the manipulative and coercive nature of his conduct.
It was also revealed during the trial that Chalk initially used alcohol to facilitate his abuse, although he denied this allegation.
The court heard that the abuse was ongoing until authorities intervened and he was taken into custody.
The evidence presented painted a disturbing picture of a man who exploited the trust of vulnerable young girls for his own gratification.
Chalk’s criminal history was also discussed during the proceedings.
He had previously been convicted of two separate offenses involving sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.
In November 1985, he received a two-year conditional discharge from magistrates, indicating a prior pattern of inappropriate sexual behavior.
Judge John Reddihough addressed Chalk directly during sentencing, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes.
He stated, “These are very serious matters, primarily because they involved a gross breach of trust on your part.
You took advantage of these young girls and sexually abused them.
Who knows what the long-term effect of that abuse may be upon them.
A substantial period of imprisonment is the only appropriate sentence in this case.” As part of his punishment, Chalk was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was banned for life from working with children, reflecting the court’s concern for public safety and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
In mitigation, Robert Underwood, representing Chalk, noted that his client had pleaded guilty and had already served 81 days in custody.
He also pointed out that the victims were spared the ordeal of giving evidence in court, which was seen as a mitigating factor.
Nonetheless, the court’s verdict underscored the seriousness of the offenses and the need for a strong punitive response to such breaches of trust and abuse.
