WOMAN SAW STALKER EX-PARTNER NEAR HOUSE WEARING CAMOUFLAGE GEAR AND BALACLAVA
A woman reported seeing her former stalker in a nearby field, dressed in camouflage clothing and wearing a balaclava.Due to Robert Samuel Roberts' threatening conduct, she had to reinforce her back garden, turning it into a makeshift 'fort.' Roberts also harassed a second ex-partner.
At Mold Crown Court, a judge stated that Roberts, residing in Bro Ednyfed, Llangefni, refuses to accept the end of relationships and sentenced him to a total of 30 weeks in custody.
Prosecutor Matthew Dunford explained that Roberts had a four-year relationship with Gemma Rogers, which concluded in 2018.
Despite a restraining order, Roberts assaulted Ms Rogers in 2019 and later violated the order by contacting her between July 2020 and January 2021.
Initially, Ms Rogers responded but soon realized that Roberts hadn't changed.
He then stalked her from July 1, 2020, to July 18, 2021, by throwing flowers into her garden, sending inappropriate gifts such as earrings and a pen, and messaging her on social media.
Ms Rogers also witnessed Roberts walking across a field opposite her home, dressed in camouflage gear, wearing a balaclava, and playing music from a speaker, the court heard.
Roberts declared in court that he would 'never give up' on her.
Ms Rogers stated in a personal account that she lost confidence, had to keep blinds closed during the day, and installed locks at the back of her property, which she described as having turned into a 'fort.' She also felt she was being watched from her backyard, nearby park, or woods.
Additionally, Roberts had a relationship with another woman, Amy Askew, from November 2020 to November 2022.
Following this, he created fake social media accounts to contact her and even sent her a Snapchat photo of himself holding a knife, along with numerous phone calls.
Roberts was arrested on March 3, during which he did not respond to questions.
Defence lawyer Ember Wong argued that her client’s actions were misguided attempts to hold his family together and that he had been unable to move on from Ms Rogers.
The judge, His Honour Timothy Petts, remarked that Roberts appears unable to accept that relationships are over and that he should refrain from contacting former partners.
Roberts was sentenced to 18 weeks for breaching the restraining order regarding Ms Rogers and an additional six weeks, to run concurrently, for stalking her.
Furthermore, he received a 12-week sentence for harassing Ms Askew, amounting to a total of 30 weeks in prison.
The court imposed restraining orders preventing Roberts from contacting either woman for ten years.
