ANGLESEY MAN JAILED FOR ABUSIVE TREATMENT OF EX-WIFE THAT LED HER TO DOUBT HER SANITY
A man from Anglesey named Derek Owen, aged 44, inflicted a series of physical and verbal assaults on his former wife over a span of three months. The court was informed that between late 2024 and early 2025, Owen exhibited aggressive conduct, including actions such as forcing her out of bed, pushing her against a wall, and verbally belittling her with insults like "nasty b******." One specific incident involved Owen accusing her of being noisy after a night out, then kicking her out of bed with both feet, causing her to knock over a bedside table.
He also restrained her against the bed and threatened to physically harm her, saying he would "smash her f***ing face in." His verbal abuse continued with epithets such as "horrible c***" and "nasty b******." In another altercation, Owen reacted aggressively when she confronted him about messages hinting at infidelity; he violently grabbed her arm, threw a handbag at her, and squeezed her face.
He even pulled her downstairs by her hair and threatened her with a golf club.
Although he was granted bail with a condition not to contact her, Owen persisted in threatening and pushing her, prompting her to seek safety at a friend’s residence.
Owen has an extensive criminal background, with 17 prior convictions for a total of 39 offenses.
During sentencing, Judge Timothy Petts remarked on his apparent lack of remorse and sentenced him to two years and three months in prison.
A 10-year restraining order was also issued to prevent further contact with Mrs Owen.
She reported suffering from flashbacks, nightmares, and a sense of her life being ruined, along with self-doubt stemming from the abuse she endured at Owen’s hands.
