HAYDOCK MAN ROBERT MASSEY SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF EX-PARTNER
A man responsible for the brutal murder of his former partner and subsequent attempts to harm two other men has received a life sentence.Robert Massey, aged 43 from Piele Road in Haydock, was sentenced to a life term with a minimum of 28 years before he can be considered for parole.
He admitted to killing Jaki Forest, who was 49 years old, along with charges of attempted murder against Anthony Paul Murphy and Graham Roberts, men he believed Jaki had been intimate with.
Additionally, Massey confessed to possessing a pair of scissors, a bladed item he bought and used during the attack on Mr Roberts.
The prosecution painted a disturbing picture of a case driven by Massey’s suspicion of Jaki’s infidelity.
According to court recordings, Massey met Jaki in a park and stayed for several days at her flat.
On August 30, he strangled her in her bed after reading her texts.
Afterwards, he dressed her in a provocative manner and left the scene, stealing money which he spent on drugs.
The court described the violence inflicted, including a deliberate stab to her abdomen using a kitchen knife, which contributed to her death.
Following the murder, Massey used her phone to send a message to Murphy, luring him to the apartment, where Massey assaulted him with a knife, causing severe injuries.
Subsequently, Massey traveled through different towns, purchasing scissors with the purpose of killing Roberts, a man he knew for two decades.
He ambushed Roberts at his workplace, threatened him, and repeatedly stabbed him with scissors.
Roberts survived but sustained injuries that posed a serious threat to his life.
Police officers observed Massey leaving Haydock after purchasing alcohol and later detained him.
He confessed to the crimes during questioning.
Judge Cummings ordered Massey to serve at least 28 years behind bars.
During sentencing, Massey remained emotionless.
The police expressed their shock and disappointment over the brutality involved and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting victims and tackling domestic violence.
