HAYDOCK MAN WHO KILLED DAD SENTENCED TO HOSPITAL ORDER
A MAN with mental illness who killed his dad in what police described as a "tragic case" has been sentenced to a hospital order.Shortly after 10pm on October 29, 2024, officers received a report from paramedics that 77-year-old Alfred Langley was found dead and had a head injury inside a house on Clipsley Lane, in Haydock.
Alfred’s son Peter Langley, of Clipsley Lane, was charged with murder.Subsequently, Langley, 35, pleaded guilty to manslaughter by diminished responsibility at Liverpool Crown Court.
Today, Friday, January 16, Langley was sentenced to a hospital order with restrictions which will be served in custody at a special hospital.Following the sentencing, Temporary Detective Superintendent Ben Dyer said: "This is a tragic case where Alfred’s life was cut short.
Alfred was described as a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his twilight years with his wife and family, and watching his grandchildren grow up.
"As you can imagine the whole family have been left devastated by Peter’s actions that day.
There are no winners in this instance, but for Alfred’s sake justice has been served."Det Superintendent Dyer added: “In this instance there wasn’t a history of domestic abuse in the family, however this incident led to the death of Alfred, and highlights that it can take many forms.
"We treat all reports of assault and domestic abuse extremely seriously, targeting offenders and supporting vulnerable victims all year round.
