GREENOCK MAN RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER FOR CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A Greenock pervert who hoarded nearly 7,000 disturbing images and videos of children for over 20 years, also collected bestiality pornography, has been spared prison.Robert Leith, aged 66, was found with 6,854 indecent images of children and associated videos.
He was convicted after a jury trial in April of two charges related to indecent child images and was also found guilty of possessing extreme pornography depicting bestiality, which he admitted in court.
The court was informed that more than 10,000 examples of extreme pornography were discovered across multiple devices seized in July 2021.
Leith was sentenced to a community payback order with supervision for 30 months, a curfew for 12 months, and was placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years.
His defense highlighted his deteriorating mental health and risk of suicide, and the sheriff emphasized the seriousness of the offenses, noting he is a first-time offender and of an age unlikely to be before the court for the first time.
Leith also faces strict rules on device ownership, contact with minors, and must adhere to a conduct requirement.
