ROBERT BLUNDELL SENTENCED IN CORBY FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST UNDERAGE GIRL
In August 2020, a disturbing case unfolded in Corby involving Robert Blundell, a local resident who was ultimately convicted of serious sexual offenses against a minor.The incident centered around Blundell grooming and engaging in sexual activity with an underage schoolgirl, a crime that shocked the community and drew significant legal attention.
On Wednesday, August 12, at Northampton Crown Court, Robert Blundell, aged 26 and residing on Carltonwood Close in Corby, was formally sentenced after admitting to the charges of sexual activity with a child.
The proceedings revealed that Blundell had initially denied all allegations when he was first arrested.
However, due to a series of procedural delays, it took nearly two years before formal charges were brought against him.
In the month following his arrest, Blundell entered a plea of not guilty, prolonging the legal process.
It was only in April of the following year that he finally admitted to the crimes, a development that significantly impacted the court's proceedings.
At the time of his arrest, Blundell was already serving a suspended sentence, having previously been convicted of domestic assault, which added to the severity of his current sentencing.
The court heard emotional testimony from the young victim, who expressed feelings of shame and self-blame regarding the incident.
The judge, Rebecca Crane, emphasized the gravity of the offense, stating that Blundell’s actions were so serious that only a custodial sentence could adequately reflect the severity of the crime.
As a result, Blundell was sentenced to four years in prison.
The sentence was structured so that he would serve half of it in custody, with the remaining time on license, subject to supervision and conditions.
Additionally, the court mandated that Blundell be placed on the sex offender register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Furthermore, the court imposed a ten-year ban on any unsupervised contact with girls under the age of 16.
A five-year restraining order was also issued, prohibiting Blundell from making any contact with his young victim.
These measures aim to protect the community and prevent any further harm from the convicted individual.
