A 33-year-old man received a two-year prison sentence after admitting to breaching a restraining order that prohibited him from contacting his former partner in Corby.

In October 2023, Northampton Magistrates’ Court sentenced Jamie Steven Cullen to 12 weeks in jail and imposed a one-year restraining order following his guilty plea to malicious communications.

The restraining order barred Cullen from any form of contact, whether directly or through third parties, including social media or phone calls.

Despite this, after his release from prison, Cullen arranged for a friend to contact her claiming he wanted to apologize.

Residing on Ashdown Place in Corby, Cullen managed to persuade the woman to return his calls, and between May 1 and October 1 of the previous year, they reconciled, fully aware that doing so was a violation of his restraining order.

They planned a holiday for late September.

When their relationship ended, Cullen threatened his ex-partner and coerced her into allowing him to travel to Spain.

Once there, he assaulted her.

Cullen was detained by Spanish authorities, charged, and appeared before local courts, where he received a six-month suspended sentence along with a nine-month restraining order, which was only applicable in Spain.

Returning to the UK, Cullen was arrested by Northamptonshire Police on October 8 and charged with harassment and breaching a restraining order.

He pleaded guilty to these charges in Northampton Magistrates’ Court on October 10.

His case was referred to Northampton Crown Court for sentencing, and on January 23, Cullen was sentenced to 24 months in prison—12 months for harassment and 12 months for his previous suspended sentence breach.

Additionally, he was granted a three-year restraining order, valid until January 2028, which strictly forbids any contact with his ex-partner through any medium, including social media or third parties.
