ROBERT BANNING FROM NEWBURY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BASINGSTOKE
In a serious case that has shocked the local community, Robert Banning, a 77-year-old resident of Newbury, was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to multiple sexual offenses involving a teenage girl.The court proceedings took place at Winchester Crown Court, where Banning appeared to face the consequences of his actions.
According to court records, Banning pleaded guilty to four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a minor, specifically a 15-year-old girl.
In addition, he admitted to inciting the girl to participate in sexual acts and was charged with two counts of producing indecent images of children.
The offenses were committed over a period stretching from July 2018 to February of the following year, primarily in the Basingstoke area.
The victim, who was only 15 at the time, disclosed the abuse to a relative, which prompted the police investigation.
The details of the case revealed a disturbing pattern of misconduct by Banning, whose actions have caused significant distress to the young girl and her family.
On Thursday, 21 November, the court handed down a six-year prison sentence to Banning.
In addition to his incarceration, he was subjected to a lifetime sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his contact with minors and prevent any future offenses.
Furthermore, a lifetime restraining order was issued, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting the victim or her family.
