2008: TEENAGER JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS FOR RAPE
A teenage individual is set to serve a four-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to the crime of raping a woman.Bolton Crown Court was told that Richard Younger, aged 18 and without a fixed address, committed the assault when he was only 16 years old.
Defense lawyer Philip Andrews stated, “He recognizes and admits the seriousness and severity of his actions.” The court heard that Younger, who used glue and other solvents recreationally, claimed to have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time, which rendered him unable to recall the exact details of the incident.
Mr.
Andrews added, “The defendant is deeply distressed and shocked by what happened.” He also noted, “There is no evidence to suggest this was anything other than a single incident, likely fueled by substance abuse and intoxication.” The lawyer emphasized that the young man has made efforts to atone for his actions and understands he must accept responsibility.
Judge Steven Everett remarked to Younger, “This was a very serious offence.” He sentenced Younger to four years in prison, with the possibility of release on licence after two years.
Additionally, Younger will be registered as a sex offender for life and is prohibited from working with children in the future.
As he was taken into custody, Younger turned towards the victim's family in the gallery and said, “I'm sorry.”
