BANBURY MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILD
An 81-year-old man from Banbury, Richard Willbond, has been sentenced to serve two years and four months in prison for sexual offences against a child.
He appeared at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday, September 18th, and pled guilty at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on August 18th to a charge of assault of a girl under 13 by touching, which falls under section 7 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
The investigation was carried out by Thames Valley Police's Child Abuse Investigation Unit.
Detective Constable Lucy McDonagh, who led the case, expressed gratitude towards the bravery of the victim and her family, stating: “As a specially trained detective in investigating the abuse of children, I remain grateful to the bravery of the victim and her family for the courage and support shown during this investigation.
A predatory sexual offender has now been sent to prison.” The police also encourage anyone affected by child sexual abuse to seek help and support, providing resources on the Thames Valley Police website.
